Egypt’s Brotherhood Urges Restrictions On The Tourism Industry

Mohamed Saad al-Katatny, secretary general of the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party recently addressed representatives of the tourism industry proposing a change in regulations when it comes to the visitors traveling to Egypt. The party is urging Egypt tourism officials to ban skimpy swimwear as well as the consumption of alcohol on Egyptian streets. Many international trade agencies have rejected such notions, Samy Mahmoud, head of the International Tourism Authority too opposed this suggested and further stated that no country wishing to promote tourism would impose such conditions. He went on by elaborating on the fact that even Turkey and Malaysia do not have such restrictions. Beach tourism in Egypt constitutes of about 80% of the total tourists, whereas 95% of Arabs consume alcohol.
