Tourism in Egypt Plunges By 28%

According to the latest figures from the Egyptian Tourism Authority (ETA) tourism in Egypt has dropped by 28% from January to July following the revolution that swept the country at the beginning of this year. The head of International Tourism Sector at the ETA stated that the number of visitors to Egypt declined by 58% to reach 55,000 from January to July. The number of people traveling to Egypt from Kuwait dropped by 52%, Saudis by 48% and Jordanians dropped by 17% within this time period. The majority of inbound tourists to Egypt came from Russia, UK, Germany, Italy and France. The figures also indicate that 5.7 million tourists visited Egypt during the months of January-July, which is quite a drop from the 8.2 million visitors last year in the same time frame.
